Nike NSRL Series - REVIEW
Nike Sports Research Lab (NSRL) Series, a collection that responds to a runners needs of temperature regulation and visibility across all seasons. Thus leaving you with no more excuses not to go for that winter run. We were lucky enough to receive the garments from the NSRL Series, to help with those winter miles. First impressions and expectations were high for this collection, and it is safe to say Nike have exceeded these.
NSRL Packable Trousers
These versatile trousers have been designed with premium woven fabric to create a lightweight design with optimum packability. As a runner who stands by their half tights throughout all seasons, these trousers were a surprisingly nice change. I normally stick to shades of black and white, these trousers offered a much needed change to my running wardrobe with their abstract pattered design.
Long-Sleeve Wool Crew
The undergarment that’s needed for all cold temperature runs. With engineered breathable mesh in high heat areas, creating zones of optimal warmth and ventilation where you need them most. Merino wool is a material I’ve never ran in before, but it really feels soft against the skin, and it doesn’t cling to you like other under layers. Nike tested this garment for over 2 years in freezing temperatures around the globe. For a runner based in the UK, this is always a go to for the unpredictable weather. It is recommended to go true to size for this, to give a snug fit and length in the sleeves for thumb holes.
Transform Jacket
The Transform jacket is the epitome of tech wear for running. With an adjustable design and mix of fabrics, you’re able to transform your coverage from a running jacket into a lightweight gilet. The jacket truly is geared for all elements, no longer do I regret wearing a jacket on a run or end up tying it around my torso. The main outer shell has water resistance properties that integrate with GORE-TEX INFINIUM™ fabric. This is a lightweight, windproof material that keeps you dry. What I’ve found with other GORE-TEX jackets, is that they’re the best at keeping out the elements, but the heat from my body can’t escape. Whereas with the Nike transform jacket, there is built in ventilation to prevent this. Nike have added a reachable zip down the back, that can be zipped down to create an air vent. Alongside a mesh fabric under the armpits to keep the airflow while running for ultimate ventilation.
For me this is a first - seeing down filled insulation used in a waterproof running jacket. The down is even part of the ‘on-the-go’ transformation. A runner has the ability to quickly snap off and remove the down from inside the jacket, which can all fit inside a front pocket. The hood and sleeves are easily removed, that then pack neatly into the jacket with built in pouches - meaning no loose parts.
This is the only jacket I have needed from January up until April, from freezing temperatures and snow, to sun filled spring runs. For many every-day runners, the price point will be a tough bullet to bite, but for me it is justified. No longer do I need a jacket for every season.
