Nike Project Fearless
Today, the Nike Invincible Run is available via the Nike App and website.
Nike, are on a mission to keep runners running. Nike Sports Research Lab team launched a plan to see if they could design a running shoe that helped reduce the risk of injury. The percentage of runners sidelined by injuries has remained static for years.
The NSRL team performed research over several years to find potential solutions, and they found it's not just ones thing, it’s several. From working with runners who said that comfort is key, the NSRL team put cushioning at the front and centre of their design. To get the right balance, between adding additional foam without making a heavier shoe, a unique rocker geometry was developed. The rocker shape helps transition the motion of the runners foot hitting the ground. Lastly is the stability of the shoe, for a more stable landing a wider base was added at the toe and heel. All of these attributes have been added to the Nike ZoomX Invincible Run.
Rather than testing the shoe in a controlled lab on runners. An independent study was created with hundreds of runners to see if the Invincible Run actually helped reduce running related injuries. But a shoe alone can’t keep you healthy, diversifying your running routine is also essential in helping a runner stay injury free.
Alongside the launch of the Invincible Run, Nike have also launched Project Fearless via the Nike Run Club App. While many races have been pushed aside, Nike are pushing forward by creating a virtual race alongside a training program. Virtual races come in the options of 10K, Half Marathon and Marathon distances. With the absence of training partners, crowds and supporters pushing runners, Nike aim to motivate runners through Project Fearless. A worldwide virtual community will be cheering each other on through training, stretching, aching and celebrating personal bests.
